“The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will involve the patient in the proper use of food, fresh air, and exercise.” — Thomas Edison

We all hear that exercising is important and makes us healthy, but we often find it difficult to make up time in our daily life for a workout. Even when we start going to the gym or start exercising at home, it can be difficult to turn it into a habit and do it regularly.

A few years ago I wasn’t practicising regular exercise, just a couple of soccer games with friends. I didn’t have this habit. Then a friend (which happens to be my girlfriend now :) ) challenged me to try CrossFit. I liked the experience and started practicing 2 times a week.

I realised that I was starting to feel better, both physically and emotionally, and I wanted to keep going. Today I workout at least 4 times a week, at home or at the gym.

I have recently finished this course Learning How to Learn in Coursera and realised how exercise can greatly improve our memory and our ability to learn. It can also improve our immune system and reduce the risk of heart disease.

Exercising makes us feel better and healthier, and I believe if there is one habit that can greatly improve our lives is this one.

Starting to go to the gym is easy, but to keep going and doing it regularly is really challenging. What worked for me was to start with a simple goal like exercising 2 times a week for 30 minutes. If we can do this for a few months, it can become a habit and then we will keep doing it and even increase the number of workouts in a week. It can be easiser if you commit to do this with a friend. The most important thing is to be persistent and never stop doing it.

It’s just 30 minutes a day that can have a great impact in your life!

Thanks for reading, enjoy every moment of your day!
